Burnout is at an all-time high among UK workers, with reports of employee burnout rising by 48% in the last year, according to research by Glassdoor. A lot of this can be attributed to the effects of covid on workplaces, leaving stores understaffed which has in turn increased workload and lowered overall morale.
One way to avoid burnout within the workplace is to encourage employees to take their allotted holiday when they can. Having a break from work is essential to keep employee engagement at a high level and to improve their productivity, however, employees may not make use of their holiday, and not notice the negative effects of this until they are already suffering from burnout.
A reason that many employees do not take their allotted holiday is because they feel they cannot as their workload is too high. This demonstrates that it is important to review the workload that is being placed upon employees and create a positive culture that makes employees feel comfortable to raise any issues they have with workload to their management.
You should also encourage your whole team to plan around holidays and cover the work of other staff when they are off, so they do not have to be contacted when they are away.
In summary, holidays are incredibly important in ensuring that employee burnout does not become an issue within your workplace.
