When surveyed, 42% of employers found that providing support for employees' general health had significantly improved rates of recruitment and retention for the business, however, health and wellbeing is an area of HR that can often go ignored. The consequences of ignoring the health and wellbeing needs of your staff can range from increased levels of absence to a higher staff turnover.

To have an effective health and wellbeing initiative, any health or wellbeing tools need to be easily understood and accessed by staff, and they must not be penalised for having to take the time to use them.

Employee health, both mental and physical, has become more important than ever since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many have been affected by the lasting effects of contracting the virus and may require some help at work, such as provisions to take time off or work from home whilst they recover. Others may be feeling effects on their mental health and wellbeing due to the stress of the pandemic, as well as the isolation or loneliness from home working. It is important to keep in contact with all employees, and act fast if you ever notice an employee that you think may be struggling with their mental health. You should approach them and talk to them in a kind, open and non-judgmental manner.
