Committing to Equality and Diversity in your Workplace in 2023

Many employees are valuing equality now more than ever. By showing a commitment to equality within your workplace, you will not just be increasing employee engagement, but also will be seen as a socially responsible business by customers, shareholders or clients.
To focus on Equality and Diversity as part of your HR agenda for 2023, you must ensure that everyone has access to the same opportunities regardless of age, sex, race, disability or any other protected characteristic. Having a diverse workforce and a diverse management team is beneficial as it brings a different outlook to your team.
It is also vital to cultivate a company culture that values equality. This can be done partially by ensuring that you always use the correct language at work. For example, instead of using gendered language in communications, use gender-neutral language (i.e. instead of saying “if any employee is going to be absent then he should call his manager” use “then they should”).
It is also important that all employees are offered appropriate diversity and inclusion training, to raise awareness of how equality is important and how to treat others equally in the workplace. You can also check in with your employees regularly through engagement surveys to see how they feel about how your business handles equality and diversity.
