Today, 10th October 2023, is World Mental Health Day. The World Foundation of Mental Health has set the theme for this year's Mental Health Day as "mental health is a universal human right". What can you do to make sure that your workplace is adhering to this statement?
An effective mental health policy should be in place in your business. This will help employees understand what they should do if they are struggling with their mental health, and inform managers on your procedures for promoting positive mental health within the workplace.
You could also focus on boosting awareness of mental health in your workplace. You can do this by hosting your own awareness days, training "mental health champions" or participating in events such as World Mental Health Day.
You may also consider training your managers. Mental health training may include information relating to common mental health conditions, how to spot signs that an employee may be struggling, and your policy and procedure for what to do when you are concerned about an employee's mental health.
Using these techniques, you can build a company culture that is open and supportive when it comes to mental health. This can help to reduce absences, increase productivity, and improve overall team morale.
