How Could Generative AI Affect the World of Work?

Employees within your business could already be reaping the benefits of generative AI programs, such as ChatGPT. These benefits include increased efficiency and productivity, particularly for those in content creation roles. However, generative AI is not without its risks.
One concern regarding AI is the protection of confidential information. You should discourage staff from inputting personal, sensitive or confidential information into the AI. This is because the messages that are inputted into ChatGPT, for example, are used as training data. This means that any information put into the application could, hypothetically, be reproduced in answers to other users’ future questions.
Another issue that may arise from using generative AI, is that AI programs still make mistakes, and if employees do not thoroughly fact-check the information presented by the AI, then these mistakes may slip into their work.
As there are benefits to using generative AI at work, you may not wish to ban the use of it outright- in which case you could consider implementing an AI-specific policy. This policy could cover many issues relating to AI, such as:
· Which AI technology will be permitted?
· Will these AI only be for internal use?
· When will employees be permitted to use the AI, and when would it be prohibited?
· How will employees be expected to minimise the risk of copyright infringement?
